Where To Find Stock Volume - Daily and Average

Wondering where to find stock volume on specific stocks you're interested in? I'll go over a few ways in this article.

Checking how the volume is on a stock relative to the past can be very helpful in a number of ways when doing research on a stock.

I'll go over some of the ways this can be useful in a separate article, but for now, I'll be concentrating on where to find some of this information.

In most cases, the easiest way to get some basic volume information is to go to your favorite finance website and get a "Stock Quote". In the example below, I have taken a snapshot of a quote for Bank of America (Symbol BAC) from Yahoo Finance:

Where To Find Stock Volume

The stock quote data above from Yahoo Finance and the one below, are from while the stock market was open, Intraday, which is why the "Volume" data is so low compared to the "Avg Vol" in this case.

You can see on the Yahoo Finance quote data the line that says "Volume" is for the current trading day, and the line directly below that "Avg Vol (3m)" is the "Average daily volume for the most recent 3 month period".

In the next example below, I have taken a snapshot of the stock quote window using my brokers trading program. In this case, it is from Fidelity's Active Trader Pro, trading program.

Where To Find Stock Volume Data

Using my brokers trading program, I can pick and choose what data I want to be displayed and where, which is a nice feature. This is done in the programs settings/preferences section.

You can see that I have the current day's volume displayed at the top right of the Quote screen. Towards the lower left, you'll see that I have it set to also display 10 Day Average Volume as well as 90 Day Average Volume for comparison.

There are many other places where to find stock volume data, these are the two that I use the most myself. Also, many times there is a slight difference in the average volume data across different websites and trading programs. I'm not sure why, but it has always been small enough not to make a difference for me personally.
